Personal Essay

Ever since I became a senior, I get annoyed and angry very easily. I do not want to get in to any trouble or any struggles. However, there is someone in my school who keeps on bugging me. I really want to get rid of them. I do not know what to do whenever I see them. They think they are kind and innocent but I truely think that they are evil and bad. They also talk about someone else behind their back because they are not brave enough to say something they want in front of people. I was really disappointed with them. How could they say such things?
I wouldn't have able to get better without my best friends. Whenever I had hard time suffering difficulties, all my friends were there for me. They cheered me up whenever I was depressed, they made me laugh, they listened to whatever I say and they wiped my tears whenever I was crying. Friends are very important in my life. However, there are some people who had been my friend and turned in to my foe, I sometimes regret for what I have done thinking that I could have hold in my feelings and release my anger by doing something else. But I try not to regret so much, because it is past and I can learn from the mistakes and not make the same next time.
I want to continue the relationships with my friend forever, so that one day, when I am old I can talk about the memories and good times I had spent with them. Wouldn't it be great? I am a type who makes few friends deeply, without making many friends lightly. I hope to get along with my friends till death. There might be some troubles or arguments between my friends and I but we will overcome such hardships because I believe in soulmates. And I will keep on finding my soulmates through on my life.

When I first got in to 9th grade, my computer class teacher suggested that she will pick four students to learn about film studies from the professional director who was widely known in India. I worked very hard to get in to the four by creating a short flash and advertisement of our school. The teacher had chosen I to be the one of four by introducing, who represented our school. He was a Bollywood director, who had created more than fifty films to get trained in film and media field. At that time, I did not have any concept of Bollywood or studies in filmmaking were but I enjoyed watching movies. I barely watched the director’s face because he looked so scary when we first encountered. I remember him asking me a question, “You are the only girl in this group. Can you able to cooperate and survive in the team?” I wanted to give up for the first time but I wanted to challenge myself and show him the girl power that I can do better than anyone else in the group to prove he was wrong.
After several days of training, he gave us a project to complete. It was the first short movie that I have ever created in my whole life. The story was about an American boy who visits India during his vacation and feels the cultural differences between two countries, United States and India. He gave me to work as an editor. I felt very discouraged because I thought editor always sat in front of the machine and do nothing on the actual shooting place. I went to the director and asked to change my position. However, he explained that being an editor needed many skills in every area such as camera angles, scenes, synopsis, lights and songs that was part of the movie, which I were all familiar with. Since I was in the school orchestra, I had the sense of choosing the music for the right scene and taking videos or cameras were my hobbies from very young. After he convinced me, I put so much effort as an editor. Editing process took about two days. Even though the movie was not really perfect, we all enjoyed and were satisfied because of the time and sweat that were added to our first ever movie.
Our computer teacher had released the short movie to our school and we even sold the DVD to our friends, teachers and parents. The money we got from it was sent to help orphans and elders who were suffering from poverty. Ever since I got that training from the director, I was sure that I wanted to study more about media and mass communication.

Essay (Opinion)

Starting own business can be very complicated for novices who have never owned a business or experienced working in companies. However, when I started to read the book called “Start your own business”, I was impressed by the explanations they have provided. The processes they have explained were amazing. The book had talked about the challenges I have to risk and what advantages I have to take. After I read the book, I strongly felt that trying something new is very proud thing to do in my life. I personally want to have my own business when I am fully experienced and ready to be independent. Being independent might be difficult when I am working in the company for a long time and get paid for what I have done. Nevertheless, owning my business had been my dream from I was very young. Making it happen would take long time but I will try on and on. I want to own an Advertisement Firm. Before creating one, I have to know many people who are related to the field and make connections. In the book, it stresses that studying statistics of other companies work is very important before I make my own. By doing it, I can learn from their mistakes therefore I do not have to go through that adversities. Reading book can be very informative and helpful to someone like me who is still young and still finding how to make it come true in the future.

Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

Summer 2006, I could not resist taking courses offered at Columbia University. Although my parents opposed me to go to America, I persuaded them to give me a chance to challenge myself away from them for the first time ever in my life. Since I was not used to American culture, I was afraid to go to United States for the first time but I forced myself to go because such adventure would provide me new exciting experiences and broaden my sight.

Due to the ultraviolet rays on July in New York, I had to wear the cap, which I bought in Korea. Walking down the streets near 116th Avenue, people started to stare at me. After I got back to the hotel, the manager called and asked me why I was wearing a Boston cap. I wondered and realized letter “B” on my cap symbolized Boston, not Brooklin. Moreover, he said that I was lucky to not get a bullet in my chest.

After the incident, the professor at Columbia University asked to create a short movie in groups of four. I was an editor, who required electronic techniques and many other skills in every aspect from synopsis to camera angles and frames. Casting, shooting, filming, editing and choosing location was a big deal. Eventhough it durated for a long time with endless efforts, our group completed the work with complement from professor. We have put it up in the auditorium at Columbia University and invited many people. The results were fantastic. Creating such film taught me true leadershipm, preparation skills and glutinosity.

Never better, being New Yorker for three weeks was fabulous as if it was foreshadowing my future life as a university student. Despite my first experience in New York, I got used to it. Although I missed my native country, Korea, my parents and my friends, I truly wanted come back later. And imagining myself walking in the Wall Street inspired me to work harder.
